Leaps and Bounds
Merry Leap Year! To those leaplings/leap-day babies, celebrate 4x because you've waited a long time for this and you deserve it! Roast a chicken, drink exotic coffee, finish Fallout 4, read a compelling book, whittle new living room furniture; whatever you choose to do, we hope everyone leaps for joy on the 29th for gaining an extra day.

MEATER Block – from hundreds to thousands. We cannot say it enough times, but our backers have really propelled us to the big leagues =) We’ve now been able to receive attention from numerous suppliers to get the best materials, prices, and production priority. We’re currently reviewing samples and negotiating with our suppliers to ensure the highest quality product. Here’s a glance at different MEATER Block samples:
On the hardware/software front, our Bluetooth chip is now communicating with the MEATER app. It’s looking good so far and we hope to show you a sneak peak of the MEATER app and probe together soon.
In other news, we have begun talks with a certification lab and received the costs involved to get MEATER tested for safety (e.g. CE, FCC, RoHS, etc.). We look forward to beginning the test process soon.
In the meantime, hang back, learn another BBQ technique, and in no time, it’ll be closer to MEATER delivery. Thank you again for your support!

Bear witness to the Android and iOS apps!
Well, just a sneak peak of the home screen icons. We don’t want to divulge how we implement our software features just yet but wanted to at least let our beautiful supporters know that 70% of the screens have been created and more are on the way. Despite the holidays during the Lunar New Year, our local software team is moving along and have begun preparations for testing the current build of the apps with the new MEATER Probe. Can’t wait =)
What you see on the computer monitor is our MEATER Block simulator. It allows us to mimic real world functionality of the MEATER Block and debug/enhance features without having the physical product. The splendor of our approach allows us to port all the code directly into the MEATER Block as soon as the samples from our factory arrives in 4-6 weeks. This allows us to do continuous work on software and not be constrained by sample lead-times.

Behold: The fully assembled MEATER Probe!
Gorgeous hand model and assembled MEATER Probe!
We received the new ceramic handles last week and have begun evaluating the mechanical assembly. Our test results are looking fantabulous so far proving that our latest mechanical design is robust. There are still plenty of tests to go through and we will keep hammering at it (figuratively)!
Torque results: 20kg-F/cm (44lbs.-F/cm) on the handle. What does this mean? Super strong assembly!
In parallel, we’ve continued our hardware/electrical validation of the newly designed probe PCB including BLE antenna performance. The results so far are what we calculated, giving us more confidence in the current design. We would like to show you more of how we assemble and validate the product but would like to err on the side of caution to ensure our design and processes remain a trade secret until the product is actually shipping.
Once we finish validation (mechanical and electrical), we will begin the CE and FCC certification process =)
We are now producing 10x more units than we originally planned and certain processes needed to change in order to accommodate the increased volume. The changes have added delays but at the same time, the volume gave us leverage with vendors to improve the components and design of MEATER. With that said, we estimate the delivery world-wide to be in the June/July time frame.
Thank you for hanging in there, we appreciate your patience very much! We have been working “sleepless” nights to make sure MEATER “meats” your expectations. We’ve set the bar very high because we are doing something that has never been done before, and of course, we will never sacrifice quality for haste. In order to do that, we are not cutting any corners and believe, despite delays so far, that it will be well worth it. Thank you again for your love and support!
On a personal note, I (Joseph) was an avid gamer back in my youth. I've always anticipated the latest and greatest offerings from Nintendo (I was classically trained with the NES) and they were notorious for delaying the release date of their beloved games. A quotation attributed to the father of the Mario Bros., Shigeru Miyamoto, has always resonated with me:
"A late game is only late until it ships. A bad game is bad until the end of time."
As the consumer, I was at the receiving end of the quote. But now as the developer/manufacturer, it’s come full circle and I cannot agree with it more.

2016 is well under way with more temporary gym-goers, more juicers making green smoothies, but definitely no less meat eating. We hope everyone is keeping up with their goals as we progress towards ours.

Gears Are Turning
Tick Tock, Tick Tock!
Like a clock (even if it was swallowed by a crocodile), gears at Apption Labs continue to turn day and night. We have teams of engineers located in Australia, Taiwan, Finland, USA and the UK developing MEATER at all hours of time. Hardware validation of the latest design and software development continue to progress towards the finish line.
This week, we were expecting the ceramic handles for the MEATER probes to arrive but delivery was pushed by a few days. But don’t fret, even though we won’t be able to assemble the probes until next week, we have been testing the MEATER probe and charger circuit boards. The results have been positive so far, giving us confidence in the latest design. Next week, we plan to assemble the MEATER probes, take some pictures for the next update, and run it through its paces.
Science and meetings and tech, oh my!
Once our tests are completed and we have gathered the data we need to move forward, we’ll share our delivery timeline so you can start counting down the days overcooked meats are on the same list as the dodo bird, dinosaurs, and great Saturday morning cartoons.

Happy New Year!
Thank you for making 2015 such a great landmark year for MEATER by pledging and giving us the opportunity to move forward with the project. It's exciting to know that 2016 will be even better than 2015 because there will be less overcooked meat in the world and more sated bellies.
We hope everyone had a wonderful time celebrating the holiday season doing what you enjoy doing and that you are all ready to launch into 2016 with renewed energy, a pep in your step, and soon, a MEATER in your kitchen!

MEATER Probe New Sample Update
Despite the holidays, the work hasn’t stopped and we’re close to finishing the brand new engineering samples of MEATER that includes the better battery and improved component/mechanical parts. We received the new Printed Circuit Boards for the MEATER Probe, Charger, and MEATER Block, stainless steel probe components, and the Bluetooth antenna assemblies.
Once we receive the ceramic handle components in the next week, we can finish assembly and validate the new design. We’ll also give you a sneak peek and take some photos =) We’re incredibly excited for this build and look forward to finalizing the hardware.
After we’ve validated the new design, we will begin safety certification and put together an accurate production timeline. The next step will be to move forward with pilot production to ensure the mass production processes are in place and run smoothly.
As for the software, we have our programmers working, adding, testing, and debugging features for the apps and the MEATER Block. We can’t wait to start testing the new MEATER sample with our code =)
